Fireaid: Behind The Screens
California Love — Anderson .Paak & Dr. Dre
When Anderson .Paak and Dr. Dre performed California Love at Fire Aid—a tribute to Tupac and a rally for LA wildfire relief—it was more than just a performance. It was a celebration of South LA culture. We were honored to contribute to this memorable set by creating the visual backdrop—a high-energy, multi-screen concert experience that had to feel raw, electric, and alive—just like the streets of South LA.
And for this one, we went old school. Instead of relying on AI-generated content or hyper-polished 3D animation, we took it back to the classic edit-bay approach—digging through real footage, sourcing gritty, authentic visuals, and cutting it together with a handcrafted touch.
Originally, we explored shooting on location—Compton, Long Beach, Watts—but with limited time, we turned to a tried-and-true method: meticulously curating footage that captured the real essence of the region. Then we brought it all together with a bold, kinetic treatment—layering movement, texture, and color to amplify the raw street-level energy the performance demanded.
It was a fast turnaround, high stakes, and all heart. We’re grateful to have played a small part in bringing this moment to life.
